Over the weekend a star studded track off T.I.’s upcoming album Paper Trail was leaked to the net featuring Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne and Jay-Z. SOHH sat down with the ATLien to talk about the track.
While Jigga, Weezy and Ye all lend their voices to T.I.’s posse cut, “Swagger Like Us,” it’s Kanye who made the biggest contribution to the record. He also produced the beat, which contains a sample of M.I.A.’s hit “Paper Planes.” [Listen Here]
“He said that it was his first beat that he’d done since the untimely passing of his mom,” T.I. explained. “He said it was the first beat that he went in the studio to do. I just happened to be the beneficiary of it.”
Mr. West handpicked the beat for Tip and he didn’t offer him any other tracks to choose from.
“You know how Kanye is,” T.I. said with a laugh. “[He said], ’I got something for you. You like it don’t you? Yeah, thought so.’”
“And you know, he was right,” T.I said. “I think it’s probably one of the hottest beats of the year if not the hottest beat of the year and I appreciate Kanye for giving it to me.”
Paper Trail, which will hits shelves next month also features production by Just Blaze, Drumma Boy, Swizz Beatz, Danja and DJ Toomp. Usher, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake will make guest appearances. T.I. also promises “a few more surprises that you’ll be pleased to hear from.”
T.I. doesn’t want to reveal too much more about the upcoming release. “I’m not going to talk too much opinion wise of how the album is. I’d rather let the music speak for itself.”
According to the rapper, DJs and executives who have gotten a preview of this project said that it reminds them of T.I.’s debut album, I’m Serious. That was exactly what Tip was hoping for.
After hearing criticism of his last album, T.I. vs T.I.P., he put serious thought into crafting this new project.
“I started thinking. ‘What is the difference in T.I. the artist now from T.I. the artist in I’m Serious besides 10-15 million dollars here or there?’ I said well the only thing I can see creatively that has changed is that I used to write lyrics down and now I’m coming off the top of the head.”
With that realization, T.I. got himself a notebook and starting writing down the lyrics for the aptly named album.
Paper Trail will be released on Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records on September 30th.

Epic Records has officially announced the release of Human, the fifth studio album from Brandy, available online and in stores on November 11th.
“Human is my most personal album to date,” said Brandy. “I have grown so much since my last album. Being able to express myself and my journey through my music is a feeling I can’t describe. With this new chapter of my life it feels good to have Rodney, a familiar face, by my side again. He brings out emotions in me like nobody else.”
Reunited with executive producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, who first collaborated with Brandy on her 1998 multi-platinum-selling collection Never Say Never, Brandy has created the most emotionally resonant album of her career with songs and performances reflecting the truth and complexity of her experiences.
“It feels good to be back in the lab with Brandy again,” said Rodney Jerkins. “We’ve always made great records and I’m humbled and honored to be continuing our legacy. The sound might be new, bigger, and more uplifting but we’ve kept our musical promise by making great songs and great music once again. There is no musical combination like ours!!!”
The album’s title is a real life mirror of Brandy as a woman, an artist, a musician and a performer, communicating what it means to be fully Human: strong yet vulnerable, candid and triumphant, in love with life and in touch with the things of the spirit.
Other key tracks on Human include “Fall,” which Brandy co-wrote with the chart-topping British dance/pop singer/songwriter Natasha Bedingfield, as well as the new songs “Long Distance,” “Piano Man,” and “Torn Down.” Brandy’s other musical collaborators on Human include Brian Kennedy (Rihanna/”Disturbia”), emerging production whiz RedOne (Kat DeLuna, 2006 World Cup Official Single “Hips Don’t Lie” with Shakira & Wyclef Jean), and James Fauntleroy (Jordin Sparks/”No Air”).
“Right Here (Departed),” the first single from Human, will impact Pop radio on September 16th. The single and ringtone are scheduled to be released on August 26th, with a digital pre-order for the album slated the same day. Listen to the song here.

Keri Hilson’s debut album, In A Perfect World…, originally slated for September 23rd release has been pushed back. The debut from thei singer/songwriter is now October 7th.
Rihanna has snagged her fourth #1 spot on the Billboard chart with her pop/dance hit, “Disturbia.” Admittedly, I hated the song at first, but after the video, I got hooked. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the track jumped from #3 to #1 this week, surpassing boyfriend Chris Brown’s “Forever” which is still riding high, remaining at #2 for a second week on the charts.
I’m not hating, but it’s funny to me that 3 out of 4 of Rihanna’s #1 singles all came from her latest album, Good Girl Gone Bad, even after releasing two albums (Music of the Sun and A Girl Like Me) just a couple of years before.
Looks like your boy Usher is doing everything in his power to keep his latest LP, Here I Stand afloat. After the single “Moving Mountains,” we haven’t heard much from him, but it seems as though he is dropping two new singles at the same time.
Although it was previously reported that “His Mistakes” was the forthcoming third single from the project, radio is being serviced with the album’s title track, “Here I Stand,” as well as the Prince-influenced “Trading Places.”
It has been rumored, too, that Usher has already begun recording a new album, and that it will be more up-tempo than the lukewarm Here I Stand release.
