KANYE’S TOUR KICKED OFF IN SEATTLE ON WEDNESDAY

Kanye West, Rihanna, N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco all turned in stellar sets to begin the “Glow in the Dark” Tour, what wil likely end up as one of 2008’s most talked-about bills. All of Kanye’s openers were given thirty minutes to do their thing at Seattle’s KeyArena last night, and Lupe Fiasco kicked off the night with a fast-paced half-hour into which he crammed parts of eleven songs, including the hits “Kick, Push” and “Superstar.” (Matthew Santos, who sings on the latter track, appeared for three songs at the end of Fiasco’s set.) The stage was bare for his performance, but Fiasco made up for it with vibrant physical energy and a very red dress scheme shared by his backing singers and DJ.([FULL REVIEW @ ROLLING STONE)

Jay-Z to Sign $150 Million Deal with Live Nation

The New York Times is reporting that Jay-Z plans to depart Def Jam for a roughly $150 million package with the concert giant Live Nation that includes financing for his own entertainment venture, in addition to recordings and tours for the next decade.
The pact, expected to be finalized this week, is the most expansive deal yet from Live Nation, which has already struck less comprehensive deals with Madonna ($120 million) and U2. The venture, to be called Roc Nation, will split profits with Live Nation. Jay will release a minimum of three albums during the deal’s 10-year term and receive an advance of $10 million per album.
The rapper’s final album for Def Jam is expected to be released later this year.
