Michael Jackson Tribute Album in the Works

Quincy Jones tells FOX News that he’s working on a Michael Jackson tribute album scheduled for release next spring. About two dozen hip-hop and R&B stars are recording Jones’ songs for the compilation, which will include a collaboration between Usher and John Mayer.

“We’re trying to set up something for Mariah Carey now,” said the legendary producer behind Jackson’s Thriller and Bad albums.

As of now, Jackson has no plans to participate in the project.

Kanye West has pushed up the release of his fourth studio album 808s & Heartbreak, which was originally scheduled to arrive on December 16th.

According to his blog, it will now be released on “November something.” The reason? “‘Cause I finished the album and I felt like it.” Good enough.

Barker & DJ AM Expected to Fully Recover

Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, are expected to make a full recovery after a Learjet crash Friday night in South Carolina that killed four people and critically injured the two men.

The men suffered second- and third-degree burns, but had no other serious injuries from the crash. They were listed in critical but stable condition and “are not getting any worse,” according to officials at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, GA.

“[Medical director] Dr. Mullins also stated this morning that he expects a full recovery for these two patients,” said Beth Frits, spokeswoman for the Still Burn Center. “We’ve got walking miracles when you look at the plane crash.”

Family members for Barker and Goldstein released a shared statement on Sunday:

“The families wish to thank fans all over the world for their prayers and concern. Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones who perished in the crash. As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them, their families and friends is requested at this time.”

Beyonce Knowles was spotted putting the smack down on a dude in Harlem, NY as she played a police officer for the video “If I Were A Boy” - her much anticipated new single that has yet to be released. The singer filmed the video this week, as well as another video for her second unreleased single “Single Ladies”.

Rap-Up magazine revealed a bit more info on Beyonce’s two singles - saying “If I Were A Boy” was produced by Toby Gad (Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry”), and “Single Ladies” was produced by The-Dream and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart (Rihanna’s “Umbrella”). Both songs are expected to impact radio on October 7th, while Beyonce’s new album is scheduled for release November 18th.

Kanye West and his road manager Don C. were arrested Thursday morning at L.A.X airport. Both men were charged with felony vandalism in an incident involving paparazzi.

The rapper and his friend were waiting at security for a flight to Hawaii when an altercation with a photographer and videographer ensued. West and Don C. have since been released from police custody on $20,000 bail.

Kanye, who is scheduled to close out the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, will also reveal details about his 4th album during the show according to XXL.

A source in ‘Ye’s camp, however, told XXLmag.com late yesterday that “official word” would on the new album details will be coming Sunday night.

It was announced yesterday that West will close out the MTV award show. It’s being billed by the network as an “explosive finale.” Last year, Kanye released his much-hyped third album Graduation, where he battled and bested 50 Cent in a first-week sales showdown. The two rappers appeared on last year’s telecast of the VMAs to promote their projects and the burgeoning rivalry.

I think it’s safe to say he’ll be performing “Love LockDown” as well.

In celebration of their MTV Video Music Award nominations for Best Dance Video and Best Pop Video for “Damaged,” Danity Kane will present a special collector’s preview edition of their comic book, Danity Kane #1 for Danity Kane Comics.

Created by Danity Kane band member Dawn Richard, the comic book is best described as “Sin City meets Sex and the City“—the special edition opens with the birth of Danity Kane and how they are ultimately chosen to save the universe. The main anime character’s super power includes controlling people’s thoughts with her voice and the villain is very reminiscent of Diddy himself:

A silent battle rages on between the Syokin and Lotus over control of Jyzfire, the home planet of Danity Kane. After Rayden Kane (father of Danity and leader of the Lotus) is killed in a battle with Kobin Toles (leader of the Syokin) to save Silu Kane and the unborn Danity Kane, the Syokin have inevitably lost their home plane, but Kobin’s disillusioned vision of a universe of peace under Syokin leadership is focused on Earth as his first test planet. There's no doubt many were checking to see where The Game's "final" LP (erm...yeh) 'LAX' and Solange's sophomore effort 'Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams) would chart, following their releases last week. Peep the report from MTV below for the goods:

The Game's latest enters the chart at #2, selling more than 238,000 copies; his previous efforts sold significantly better. His 2005 LP The Documentary entered the chart on top with 587,000 scans, while the 2006 follow-up, Doctor's Advocate, sold more than 358,000 units, to open at #1. Rockers Slip Knot narrowly clinched the top spot selling through 240,000 copies of All Hope Is Gone.

A total of 23 new releases crack the top 200, with two others debuting in the top 10. The Now That's What I Call Country compilation enters at #7 with 50,000 scans, and Solange Knowles' Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams bows at #9 with 46,000 sold.

Granted tongues will no doubt be wagging about sales, comparisons and whatnot, I think both artists have performed well considering. Put simply music doesn't sell the way it used to, so both debuts are respectable all the same.

Meanwhile, Kanye West is scheduled to drop his follow-up to Graduation in December. The first single, “Love Lockdown,” is said to debut on Monday. T.I. Talks “Swagger Like Us,” “It Was Kanye’s 1st Beat Since The Passing Of His Mom”

Over the weekend a star studded track off T.I.’s upcoming album Paper Trail was leaked to the net featuring Kanye West, Lil’ Wayne and Jay-Z. SOHH sat down with the ATLien to talk about the track.

While Jigga, Weezy and Ye all lend their voices to T.I.’s posse cut, “Swagger Like Us,” it’s Kanye who made the biggest contribution to the record. He also produced the beat, which contains a sample of M.I.A.’s hit “Paper Planes.” [Listen Here]

“He said that it was his first beat that he’d done since the untimely passing of his mom,” T.I. explained. “He said it was the first beat that he went in the studio to do. I just happened to be the beneficiary of it.”

Mr. West handpicked the beat for Tip and he didn’t offer him any other tracks to choose from.

“You know how Kanye is,” T.I. said with a laugh. “[He said], ’I got something for you. You like it don’t you? Yeah, thought so.’”

“And you know, he was right,” T.I said. “I think it’s probably one of the hottest beats of the year if not the hottest beat of the year and I appreciate Kanye for giving it to me.”

Paper Trail, which will hits shelves next month also features production by Just Blaze, Drumma Boy, Swizz Beatz, Danja and DJ Toomp. Usher, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake will make guest appearances. T.I. also promises “a few more surprises that you’ll be pleased to hear from.”

T.I. doesn’t want to reveal too much more about the upcoming release. “I’m not going to talk too much opinion wise of how the album is. I’d rather let the music speak for itself.”

According to the rapper, DJs and executives who have gotten a preview of this project said that it reminds them of T.I.’s debut album, I’m Serious. That was exactly what Tip was hoping for.

After hearing criticism of his last album, T.I. vs T.I.P., he put serious thought into crafting this new project.

“I started thinking. ‘What is the difference in T.I. the artist now from T.I. the artist in I’m Serious besides 10-15 million dollars here or there?’ I said well the only thing I can see creatively that has changed is that I used to write lyrics down and now I’m coming off the top of the head.”

With that realization, T.I. got himself a notebook and starting writing down the lyrics for the aptly named album.

Paper Trail will be released on Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records on September 30th.
